A $15,000 top price was knocked down twice at Bull Oak Well Angus stud's annual on-property sale at Willalooka on Thursday last week, helping the stud to its highest ever sale average of $7793.

 

The stud achieved full clearance and sold 46 bulls with Bull Oak Well Moe P51 and Bull Oak well Komplete P11 achieving the $15,000 equal top price.

 

Return buyer Jonathan Pietzsch, Lake Ellen Pastoral, Tintintara, bought Bull Oak Well Moe P51 in partnership with Vandeleur Rural Holdings, Saddleworth.

Sired by Chiltern Park Moe M6, the 894-kilogram bull had a 43.5 centimetre scrotal circumference.

Its estimated breeding values included +4.4 for calving ease and +94 for 400-day weight with -1.1 for rib fat, -1.2 for rump and +4.8 for eye muscle area.

Mr Pietzsch said the stud's bulls had a good combination of traits he desired.

"They have longevity with a good combination of calving ease and low birth weight but extremely strong growth figures," he said.

Mr Pietzsch runs about 1050 Angus females and the bull will be used in May as a backup bull to its artificial insemination program.

 

Interstate return buyers John and Kate Woodward, Camperdown, Vic, successfully bought Bull Oak well Komplete P11 for $15,000.

Sired by Pathfinder Komplete K22, it weighed 872kg and had a 45cm scrotal circumference with +3.7 calving ease and +90 400-day weight.

Its EBV's also included +0.3 for rib and +1.4 rump with a +5.0 EMA.

Mr Woodward runs 700 cows and calves and said the bull had thickness and was moderately sized.

"That is why we go interstate to buy our bulls, they meet our criteria better," he said.

"We get paid on weight and that bull will produce heavy calves."

 

Eura-Carla, Padthaway, bought the $10,000 second-highest price bull, Bull Oak Well Laird P120.

Sired by Dunoon Laird, it weighed 870kg and had a 44cm scrotal circumference.

Its EBV's included +94 400-day weight with -1.3 for rib, -1.2 rump and a +6.2 EMA.

Eura-Carla secured three bulls in total, averaging $8000.

 

Bull Oak Well stud principal Heath Nickolls said he was "wrapped" with the sale's result.

"It was our highest ever sale average, I'm so happy," he said.

 

The sale's volume buyer was Spinifex Pastoral, Lucindale, that bought six bulls to $8000, averaging $7250.

Long Trail Farms, Pinnaroo, bought five to $9500, averaging $7700.
