Celebrating 25 years!

Celebrating 25 years of breeding high-quality Angus cattle is an incredible achievement for us at Bull Oak Well Angus. We were honoured to receive a token of appreciation from Angus Australia to mark this special occasion, which was presented at the 2022 Royal Adelaide Show Angus judging.

When Heath started the Stud back in 1997 he had no idea that it would still be going 25 years later. What started as a bit of a hobby with a handful of cows has turned into our family's main business and passion, with over 250 stud females and selling 100 stud bulls each year. (both at our annual sale and privately)

We are grateful for the support and trust of our clients and agents. Our commitment to providing superior genetics and excellent customer service remains as strong as ever.

Thank you for your continued support and here's to many more years of success.

Royal Adelaide Show: Bull Oak Well recognised by Angus society

Cooper Nickolls, 17, Bull Oak Well Angus, Pinnaroo, with Angus Australia chief executive officer Scott Wright.

A special achievement was mentioned during the Angus judging on Friday night, with the Bull Oak Well stud from Pinnaroo recognised for their 25 years of membership with Angus Australia.

The Nickolls family joined up with AA when they first registered their stud in 1997.

Heath Nickolls said he was a junior AA member at the time, but "never thought it would turn into a 25-year association with our business".

Mr Nickolls has also sat on the state AA committee for about 20 years, which has heavy involvement in the Royal Adelaide Show and Angus Week, and previously an assessment school.

He said the breed has certainly grown over the past 25 years.

"When we first started, the market share was minimal, where as now, they certainly have the market share," he said.

"The breed has come a long way in technology and performance recording, we are giving our clients so much more information than we used to.

"At Bull Oak Well, we genomic test all our progeny, and these types of tools have helped us to significantly improve on what we were breeding 25 years ago."

Mr Nickolls said they bought their first 12 in-calf females from the neighbouring Cowley family stud Roseleigh Angus, when he left school to work on the farm in 1997.

Today, they run about 250 breeders, using Millah Murrah and Sitz sires.

Mr Nickolls runs Bull Oak Well with wife Amanda and sons Cooper, 17, Harry, 15, and Archie, 10.

"The boys are all very keen on farming, which is good," he said.

Angus Australia chief executive officer Scott Wright presented the token of appreciation to Cooper at the show on Friday night, saying it was good to see the next generation coming through at Bull Oak Well.

"The stud are really starting to accelerate as one of the really great breeders in SA," he said.

"It's nice to be able to give recognition to a stud that has got those plans going forward."
